About us

" A good carpenter isn't one who doesn't make mistakes.
He's the one that can make them look like they never were mistakes."
I have been doing interior trim in and
around Ft. Collins Colorado for about 25 years. I have worked on houses in most price ranges, any where from under one hundred
thousand to four million dollars. There have been some slow times and some times we have needed to work every
day for several months and still couldn't keep up. Most of the time the work has been steady. I have been working, for
the most part, with a local builder named Classic Custom Builders for the past 12 years. This builder builds custom and semi-custom
homes throughout northern Colorado.
Woodworking Philosophy I have had a few instances
recently with related trades providing either poor quality products or work. With this in mind I think maybe I should write
a little about my attitude concerning woodworking. I don’t consider interior trim as just a job opportunity
or a career I really enjoy it. I think of the fact that all of the work that I do is in the main living space of the home
and when a customer is looking for a new home they will look at all aspects of a house but in my opinion it is the interior
that will sell the house. If I do sloppy work it will reflect poorly not only on me but on the builder as well. The work that
I do will last decades or even possibly centuries and, although I realize nobody will know I am responsible for it, I would
like future generations to think there were some craftsmen in our era who cared about their work and advanced the art for
those who will follow. Although the average home owner will not scrutinize my work every day they will certainly see it every
day so I make every effort to make it something as pleasing to the eye as possible. If I have a piece of woodwork that doesn’t
fit quite right it may take a minute to walk to the saw to re-cut it but it will look good forever.
The content of these pages is meant as a platform to express my ideas and methods about trim carpentry. I have never
pretended to know the only, or even the best way of doing things, only the way that has worked out the best for me. If the
content on these pages can inspire someone who has been thinking about a project, but has been afraid to start it, then I
am satisfied. The only one who can't complete a wood working project is the one who won't start it. If
you are a trim carpenter also, and can pick up a new tip or technique, then I am flattered. And if any one has a tip or bit
of advice, please feel free to share it. If it is good I will find a place to post it. As with any advice,
remember that you are free to follow it or not at your own discretion. Every job or project has it's own set of circumstances
that can influence it. Always be sure to follow all appropriate safety precautions and take the time to read the safety instructions
that come with your tools.
